The future of industrial computing is going to be insanely fast. With the use of full-size PCIe and mini PCIe, manufacturing will be able to integrate both legacy applications and the technology of the future. Cybernet has introduced a mini rugged PC, the iPC R1ix, that provides expanded functionality through two full-size PCI Express slots in addition to the two mini PCI Express slots.
Many rugged computers only have the newer mini PCIe slots so with the addition of the two full-size PCIe, Cybernet has given the user flexibility as to the types of devices that can be plugged into the iPC R1ix. The full-size PCIe slots allow for many legacy systems to be used in conjunction with the newer applications that use the mini PCIe. Both allow for enhanced processing speed because of the lanes associated with PCIe.
Many factories and manufacturing plant use a combination of new technologies and legacy equipment. By allowing for the integration of both types of technologies, the iPC R1ix allows industrial plants to update their legacy equipment at some point in the future saving them thousands of dollars.
“The iPC R1ix is our most versatile mini rugged yet because users can add almost unlimited functionality with the two full-size PCI Express slots, the two mini PCI Express slots and the surplus of ports,” said Ali Bagheri, Global Senior Vice President, Cybernet. “We essentially provide the architecture and through the use of the PCIe slots and the ports, the customer adds the functionality. This future proofs their investment by allowing both new applications and legacy hardware to be integrated into one platform, the iPC R1ix mini rugged PC. ”
The iPC R1ix mini rugged PC has more ports than many comparable rugged mini PCs, including up to three RS232 ports, one RS232/422/485 port, two USB 2.0 ports, and four USB 3.0 ports. It is Linux and Windows compatible and powered by an Intel Core i5 or i7 CPU. The IPC R1ix mini rugged PC is a slightly larger form factor than many rugged mini PCs because of the addition of the full-size PCIe slots.
"The full-size PCIe slots can be used for industrial and medical imaging or video capture," says Bagheri. "In addition, this mini rugged PC is ideal for use in smart factories where machine vision is used to automate quality control or direct equipment."
The iPC R1ix has terminal blocks which allows it to be turned on and off remotely. This is ideal for embedded computing or computing in hard to reach locations.
“Our customers asked for a mini rugged that would accommodate full-size PCIe,” says Bagheri. "We have a close relationship with our customers and as a manufacturer, we are able to accommodate their requirements. Often, we will build customized hardware for our customers that have special requests."
As with every one of Cybernet’s products, the iPC R1ix is made with military grade components, has a three to five year product life cycle and comes with extended warranties.
